Sr. Manager, Insurance
Sunnova Energy is seeking a Sr. Manager, Insurance to lead the management and optimization of insurance policies, evaluate P&C insurance needs and complete an RFP within the first six months, and facilitate the binding of Tax Credit Insurance for renewable energy transactions. This role will also be responsible for managing insurance claims and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements. Reporting to the Assistant Treasurer, the Sr. Manager will play a key role in mitigating financial risks and protecting the company's assets and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Insurance Policy and Captive Insurance Management:
· Evaluate, select, and manage insurance policies to adequately cover the organization's assets, liabilities, and operations, including property insurance, casualty insurance, liability insurance, and other relevant policies.
· Stay informed of the regulatory environment, trends, and best practices in the captive insurance industry and provides insight and recommendations as needed.
· Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with insurance providers to optimize coverage and cost-effectiveness.
· Manage the insurance budget and identify cost saving opportunities.
· Provide advice and guidance to management on insurance related matters.
· Optimize the retention of coverage in captive against the risk appetite.
Tax Credit Insurance Management:
· Assess and mitigate risks associated with tax credit transactions.
· Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to company guidelines, industry regulations, and risk management practices.
· Develop a strong understanding of Inflation Reduction Act, related IRS tax codes, renewable energy industry, tax equity finance and pricing, underwriting, legal and regulatory compliance, documentation, and risk management.
Insurance Claims Management:
· Manage the end-to-end process of insurance claims, including filing claims, coordinating with insurance adjusters, providing necessary documentation, and negotiating settlements.
· Ensure timely and accurate resolution of insurance claims, minimizing financial losses and disruptions to business operations.
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, risk management, or related field.
· 5+ years of experience in financial risk management, insurance, or related roles.
· Strong understanding of financial markets, insurance products, and risk management principles.
· Demonstrated experience in managing insurance portfolios.
· Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk exposures, evaluate insurance coverage, and analyze insurance claims.
· Exceptional interpersonal/relationship management and communication skills (presentation, verbal and written), with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Master's degree in finance, risk management, or related field.
· Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, or ARM.
· Previous experience in the energy industry or related sectors.
· 3+ years' experience with energy transition transactions, including renewable energy underwriting, tax credits, financial analysis, and risk assessment methodologies.
· Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and analysis tools.
· Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
