Our core technology is the node, a device that produces energy in the ocean’s harshest conditions for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention.
We are seeking a skilled and eager Mechanical Engineer to join us on our journey to high volume manufacturing of the next generation node fleets.
This role sits at the seam between node device design and manufacturing development. TheMechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Systems will be an engaged and active liaison between our local fabrication partners and the node mechanical design team. This person will immerse themselves in the finer details of what it takes, at every stage of manufacturing, to build a fleet of nodes. They will become the in-house, subject matter expert responsible for transitioning our designs into volume manufacturing. This engineer is expected to spend considerable hands-on time with our local fabrication partners, advise on and contribute to detailed DFM with our design team, and support the development of pilot manufacturing processes as well as requisite equipment. This role includes opportunities for hands-on, analytical, detailed design, and project management work scopes.

Responsibilities:
- Embedded in the day-to-day at our local manufacturing space to understand the existing processes, equipment, and techniques used by fabrication partners and other industry equivalents; use that knowledge to inform our strategy for manufacturing at scale, in close collaboration with the node design team
- Fully understand the processes and requirements for building core node shapes and structures
- Characterize processes to inform specification development, design best practices, cost structures, and future manufacturing site requirements
- Support the development of bespoke manufacturing processes and equipment as needed, including opportunities for detailed machine design
- Contribute to the design and development of the node pilot line
- Contribute to building out the strategy for future high volume manufacturing systems and processes
- Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback to node design team
- Contribute to node design as it pertains to successful high volume manufacturing
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3+ years experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, solid mechanics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, and fabrication processes
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred), drafting (GD&T fundamentals), and PLM (team center)
- Self starter
- Comfortable with broad scope definition and to-be-defined requirements
- Detail-oriented
- Results- and data-driven, able to effect change based on data
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Collaborative, team-player
- Ability to work cross-functionally
- Ability to identify issues and develop corrective measures to resolve

- Ability to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
- Must be able to work in a dynamic environment, occasionally requiring extended hours
Desired Qualifications:
- Preferred experience developing high volume equipment in automotive, roll-to-roll, oil & gas, wind turbine monopile, process industries, or equivalent
- Experience in pneumatics, hydraulics, fluid systems, heavy steel manufacturing, welding, or metal forming (press brake and plate rolls)

Compensation and Benefits:
If hired for this full-time role, you will receive:
- Cash compensation of $85,000 - $150,000
- Equity in the company. We’re all owners and if we’re successful, this equity should be far and away the most valuable component of your compensation.

Location
This is an on-site position; our offices, lab, and shop are located in Portland, Oregon.
