Job Description
Factory Simulation Engineer
We are building a state-of-the-art Gigafactory that will be one of the largest cell production facilities in Europe. We are now looking for Factory Simulation Engineer to join our Engineering team!
Volvo Cars is one of the most well-known and respected car brands in the world. Northvolt is a leading supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems, dedicated to delivering the world’s greenest lithium-ion battery.
Together, we have formed a joint venture, NOVO Energy, to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo cars.
Few industries offer as great opportunity for career growth and personal development as the new European battery industry. In working for this joint venture, you'll not only develop skills that are highly sought after in the global automotive and industrial sector, but you are also contributing to a climate-neutral way of life for future generations.
Our Engineering team is a coalition of specialists, engineers and technical project managers. Together they work toward the shared goal of scaling and industrializing the production of our lithium-ion battery technology that will help Volvo transform into a pure electric car manufacturer. The team is currently focused on designing, planning and equipping a world class Gigafactory in time for start of production in 2026.
What You Will Do
In your role as Factory Simulation Engineer your primary responsibility will be to validate and optimize material flow designs to ensure they are feasible, efficient, and lean, in order to meet defined production volumes. The main tool you will use for this purpose is discrete event simulation, incorporating multidisciplinary input parameters.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support material flow projects and factory layout design by simulating concepts.
- Drive, plan, and establish simulation objectives, input parameters, and time plans in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Adjust the level of detail in simulations based on the defined objectives and time plan.
- Utilize a standardized, modular, and reusable approach to simulation modeling.
- Document and present simulation case study results, emphasizing the simulation objectives, using intuitive visualizations and statistically rigorous analysis.
- Evaluate production controls deployed in production areas.
- Evaluate operating models utilized in production areas.
- Assess the overall production capacity of the designed production site.
- Enable material flow system configurations that meet production demands.
- Contribute to the overall factory design by incorporating best practices in manufacturing.
Skills & Requirements:
To be successful in this role you have previously worked with designing manufacturing material flows or within internal logistics. You have well-developed communication skills to allow frequent contact and continuous alignments with stakeholders.
As a person you are self-going, solution oriented with excellent problem-solving skills. You have the ability to work well with others in a multi-cultural team environment, as well as independently. Furthermore, we see that you have an eye for details with high sense of quality. We believe that you have:
- BSc. or MSc. in Engineering, preferably within Production, Industrial Engineering or Logistics
- +3 years of professional experience with material flow simulations or digital manufacturing
- Fluent English written and oral skills
- Experience with Siemens Plant Simulation or other Discrete Event Simulation tools
- Experience in programming, big data analysis and machine learning
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar drawing tools is required
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD tools
