Job Purpose

The Senior Technician, Mechanical is responsible for engine prototype and early engine production building including assembling, fabricating, and tuning our new KARNO generator to precise specifications. This role requires the ability to work both with and without schematics/drawings. This position will work closely with the engineering team, operations, and other functions to collaborate and develop solutions together. This role may also train and develop others in their area of expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

ENGINE BUILDING:

  • Assemble engines according to specifications, including precision installation and alignment of pistons, bearings, and fluids management components.
  • Work without schematics/drawings and instructions as needed in early development programs.
  • Perform precision measurements and adjustments to ensure proper engine test and performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot engine issues and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Train and coach peer technicians in best practice manufacturing assembly techniques.

DEVELOPMENT:

  • Work with engineering to create, modify, and improve product designs, systems, or processes.
  • Use CAD software and other engineering tools to assist with technical drawings, blueprints, and models.
  • Preparation and documentation of technical specifications, assembly instructions, and project documentation.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY:

  • Perform general assembly tasks, including installing, fitting, and adjusting components and systems.
  • Follow assembly procedures and quality standards to ensure product integrity and reliability.
  • Conduct final inspections and quality checks to verify compliance.
  • Additional job responsibilities as needed or required by the business.

Qualifications include:

  • Education, Experience and Certifications
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Associates or Technical degree and certifications in a related trade beneficial
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in engine building, fabrication, and general assembly
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing preferred
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of engine systems and components.
  • Experience in aerospace or other high precision manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in a workshop environment.
  • Able to maintain records of assembly processes, modifications, and test results.
  • Collaborative player across a broad cross-functional team

Role Classification and Working Conditions

This is an hourly, non-exempt-level position. This position typically works in an both a production/assembly/engineering lab environment, as well as in an office environment. Overtime may be required.

Physical/Other Requirements

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
