Job Description

As Senior Legal Counsel at Exponent Energy, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth while safeguarding the company from legal and compliance risks. This role goes beyond transactions, requiring you to assess liabilities, prioritize legal risks, and implement compliance frameworks to ensure Exponent Energy’s readiness for audits and scaling operations.

Our philosophy: Break. Believe. Build

Believe in the team. Believe in the process. Believe through failures.

Build fast. Build passionately. Build to simplify.

What You’ll Do

  • Risk Assessment: Analyze risks from business operations and external factors, identifying exposure areas and liabilities.
  • Agreement Management: Draft, review, and optimize agreements to safeguard company interests. Monitor obligations and liabilities from existing and new agreements.
  • Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to existing statutory and regulatory requirements while staying updated on new regulations and areas of expansion.
  • Due Diligence Readiness: Prepare the company for audits and due diligence processes, ensuring compliance documentation is always up to date.
  • Process Design: Establish processes to systematically handle and mitigate exposures, making risk management scalable and efficient.

Who You Are

  • A law school graduate with up to 5 years of experience, including time as a senior associate in a law firm, now seeking challenges outside of law firms, with a preference for experience in a Series C start-up.
  • Skilled in risk analysis, prioritization, and managing business-critical legal tasks.
  • Experienced in contract law, regulatory compliance, and exposure management.
  • Agile and proactive, with a proven ability to adapt to the demands of a growing business.
