Job Description

We are the world’s largest producer of sustainable wood pellets, which provide a low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels.
Position & Project Overview: We are seeking a proactive and analytical Process Engineering Intern to join our COE team in Raleigh, NC. Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, this internship focuses on developing, collecting, and analyzing. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the pelletizing process across a fleet of manufacturing facilities. The goal is to track, trend, and ultimately enhance the energy efficiency of our processing operations. The intern will also handle daily responsibilities related to process data analysis, troubleshooting process upsets, and creating tools to support problem-solving across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement normalized energy consumption metrics for the pelletizing process(es)
- Track and trend energy usage data to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement across the enterprise.
- Generate reports and visualizations to communicate findings and support decision-making.
- Assist in identifying and troubleshooting process upsets and anomalies.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to formalize resolutions and implement corrective actions.
- Develop tools and dashboards to facilitate real-time monitoring and problem-solving at all levels of the organization.
- Enhance existing tools to improve data accessibility and usability for various stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Work with engineers and ops teams to understand process details and gather necessary data.
- Participate in meetings and contribute to discussions on process optimization and energy efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute innovative ideas to enhance energy efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 2.8.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods.
- Experience with data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, Python, MATLAB) is advantageous.
- Familiarity with energy systems and manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
