The Role

Cypress Creek Renewables is seeking a highly motivated candidate with substation and protective relaying experience to manage maintenance and repair activities on interconnection substations, transmission lines and medium voltage (MV) systems across the US. The Substation Maintenance Manager will also respond to corrective maintenance cases to troubleshoot, test, and repair substation and MV systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop programmatic requirements for all aspects of substation maintenance as recommended by manufacturers, NERC compliance and good utility practice.
  • Development and approval of HV, substation, and protective relaying maintenance and inspection schedules and procedures
  • Draft, review, and approval of switching orders with support from operations and field management teams
  • Selection and due-diligence reviews of HV/Substation subcontractors
  • Develop and oversee qualification and training for technicians involved with substation operation and maintenance
  • Work with CCR Internal Transmission Group Operators (TG) and submit outage requests to CCR Maintenance Planner Scheduler (MPS) per the established protocols. Assist TG Operators with any questions from related Reliability Entities about upcoming transmission outages
  • Coordinate, Plan, and Oversee on-site routine maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of substation equipment with support of on-site technicians and approved subcontractors
  • Coordinate, plan and oversee routine maintenance, service, trouble shooting, GSU DGA’s, and repair of P&C relaying and digital meters with support of on-site technicians and approved subcontractors
  • Coordinate, and review all testing of substation equipment required by NERC standards
  • Support Operation Engineers in managing warranty claims on Substation and MV equipment and HV/MV workmanship.
  • Manage Substation Maintenance work order creation and close out.
  • Reviewing, and approving service reports from technicians with support from Operations Engineering
  • Maintain spare parts program for substation and relay maintenance with support from operations and field management teams
  • Select tools, equipment, and service vehicles required for efficient and comprehensive maintenance of substations
  • Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards
  • Create operability and major issue/downtime reports
  • Perform additional duties as required and requested by Cypress Creek Renewables OM management.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

The successful candidate may not need to have the entire skill set listed below but should show a willingness to acquire

  • Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS and UPS systems
  • Experience with SEL or equivalent digital relays and meters setup and testing activities required to document performance
  • Knowledge of Accelerator Quickset, SEL Equipment Interfaces, and configuration
  • Understanding of the processes needed to complete maintenance/construction activities on all substation equipment including but not limited to switches, circuit breakers, transformers, battery banks, regulators, PT's, CT's, CCVT's, relays, meters, and grounding systems
  • Has working knowledge of complex SCADA systems, with sound ability troubleshoot wiring and I/O associated SCADA systems,
  • Experience in directing aspects of substation maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring
  • Diagnostic capabilities to help guide technicians on what equipment to troubleshoot and correct problems that are found
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design/construction practices
  • Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • OSHA 30 HR Training
  • NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in workplace
  • NESC National Electrical Safety Code
  • Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends on an emergency basis

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Work is to be performed in the field and remote office.
  • Expectation to visit substations once a year or during major outages.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures. PPE personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; hard hat, arc flash protection, safety glasses, hearing protection)
  • Must have the ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis

Locations: Preferable based remote in either Houston or Dallas Texas. Candidate will be working with a distributed team and projects across the US.
