Woodard & Curran, Inc. seeks Engineer 3s (multiple openings) in Irvine, CA, to work on a wide range of water resources and environmental projects to develop innovative and creative solutions to challenging and complex water-related problems. The Engineer 3 is responsible for working primarily on the development, calibration, and application of stormwater models, including the US Geological Survey’s MODFLOW, Department of Water Resources Integrated Water Resources Model (IWFM), Innovyze’s XPSWMM, and the US Army Corps of Engineers’ HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS platforms, to water resources projects and analysis using the results of models, processing large and complex temporal and geospatial data in Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS, Python (or other programming language) and other data management platforms; performing data analysis, visualization and interpretation of model results; analysis of watersheds, hydrology and climate change (precipitation, stream flows, etc.), land use, land-surface processes (evapotranspiration, crop water demand, soil moisture, soil parameters, etc.), and agricultural and urban water use for planning activities and supporting policy and regulatory processes; evaluating the impacts of different stormwater management activities, including drainage capacity, implication on flooding, stream and river levels, and erosion. The Engineer 3 is actively involved in local professional groups and mentors and delegates to entry level engineers, with an increased level of independence and responsibility. The Engineer 3 plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. The Engineer 3 is responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting or coordinating phases of a major project; supporting the evaluation of feasibility of alternative design approaches; preparing technical reports, plans, and applications; preparing cost estimates for projects and understanding project schedule and budget aspects of projects during project execution and performing QA/QC functions. The minimum requirements for this position are a Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and 1 year of experience in developing, calibrating, and applying stormwater models, or, a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and 3 years of experience in developing, calibrating and applying stormwater models. All qualified applicants must have at least some experiences in hydraulics and hydrology modelling, including experience identifying deficiencies and recommending stormwater system improvements using these models. The position is based at Woodard & Curran’s office in Irvine, CA, with the option to telecommute within a normal commuting distance approximately 2 days per week.
