Job Description
Turntide’s Transport group is based in the North East of England and is focused on delivering electrification systems – energy storage, power electronics and advanced electric motors – to deliver emissions-free mobility and industrial machines across global markets.
There is a massive change happening across industrial Transportation. Globally there is a rapid shift to new electrified platforms to meet the demands of their end users looking to reduce carbon emissions and create entirely new product types. Our Turntide for Electrification solutions help ease the customer journey and accelerate their transition.
We are hiring for a Product Manager – Battery Systems will enhance top-line revenue and profitability over the full product lifecycle, by achieving success for current and future battery products and related services.
The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Senior Product Director.
Job Role
In this role Product Manager – Battery Systems will be responsible for the following:
- Manage a product line portfolio of battery systems, generating highly differentiated solutions to meet customer needs.
- Identify technology enabling solution opportunities focusing on the market, the customer and pulling from the internal knowledge pool to continuously identify and define the technology roadmap, product placement and solution delivery.
- Support Turntide's strategy for battery systems in transportation by developing roadmaps including product diversification, features and options while translating that into detailed requirements and a go-to-market strategy.
- Work alongside your technical specialist, be the main technical interface to the customer in the pursuit phase of new business opportunities and throughout the product development cycle.
- Work closely with customers to understand their business needs and opportunities and apply it to our product offerings by capturing and articulating market problems and translating them into market requirements for product management including design, performance needs, features and options.
- Support the commercial business function with technology collateral, whilst assisting with opportunity identification, quantification, and qualification. Generates business cases for product extensions and product enhancements.
- Ensure that the technical solution, alongside your Technical Specialist, presented to customers is the optimal one considering the expectation on performance, cost and timing whilst assessing the new business opportunities with the Sales team considering alignment to strategy, technical risk, resources and cost.
- Develop and own high level product requirements.
- Drive OEM awareness of current and future products and value propositions and leverage differentiations to be suitably positioned to win the right business opportunities.
- Represent Turntide at trade shows and conferences to become familiar with the major customers and integrators in the industry.
- Interface with the customer throughout the product development cycle.
- Manage the technical risk management and escalation of issues.
- Track product engineering project achievements by comparing outcomes to plans and summarizing results.
- Lead peer reviews of product development projects.
- Partners with marketing to communicate the value proposition of our products and creation of sales collateral including content development of blogs, whitepapers, factsheets, and product brochures
- Supports the development of a ground-up design, implementation and metrics of processes and practices that involve all appropriate departments.
Experience and Skills
We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in product development of battery systems or battery technology
- Minimum 5 years’ experience successfully managing technology development programs and Engineering and Development Programs
- Excellent understanding of current and future technology, systems, and concepts related to electrification and Industry 4.0 operations
- Experience in manufacturing and component sourcing for serial production of battery systems.
It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:
- MBA (Master of Business Administration) Certificate
- PhD in the field of electrification of transports or battery technology
- Project management certification
- Experience in the automotive transport industry
- Formal training or deep experience in the field of Systems Engineering
- Knowledge of development of battery systems, power electronics and software
Qualifications
A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical/ Electronic, Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, Maths or Science are appropriate fields of study.
Relevant experience could also be considered
