Job Description

We’re more than an app: we are a certified B Corporation with a mission to empower everyone to take action against food waste, so alongside our marketplace app, we create educational tools, explore new business solutions - such as our Retail Technologies offering, and influence legislation to help reduce food waste.

We’re growing fast: Our community of 98 million registered users and 228,000 active partners across 19 countries, have together already prevented 346+ million meals from going to waste - avoiding over 934,000 tonnes of CO2e!

The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer - Backend, to be a part of our Tech Consumer Checkout-Collection Team. We are a cross-functional team responsible for one of the core functionalities of the app - the orders and payments system. As a Team Member in the Consumer Checkout-Collection Team, you will work towards specific outcomes with the freedom and responsibility to figure out the best way to achieve them together with the other Engineers on the team and other Product Team members.

Your mission will be to help refine, design, implement, deliver and maintain various product features.

You will build and maintain various integrations with payment providers and enhance the monitoring tools for better performance monitoring. You will also add more functionality to the system and participate in improving the general flow. The core system is highly concurrent, heavily relying on message queues, locking and eventual consistency.

You will develop, build and deliver top-class functionality, ensuring quality, maintainability, and sustainability. Supported by other experienced colleagues who will guide, train and encourage you to improve. We want to be proud of our work and focus more on quality than deadlines.

The Tech Stack

We have created a scalable Spring Boot Application running on Java 21 in Kubernetes, deployed in a multi-region setup in AWS. Developers are able to run a full development environment locally, which gives a great developer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve our backend services and infrastructure to stay ahead of our growth curve.
  • Develop exciting new features to make the developer experience better for you and other backend engineers.
  • Actively participate in your team’s agile development processes with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Desire to deliver international products with maximum quality, maintainability and scalability.
  • Take on additional tasks outside your current boundaries with help from your team to continue to grow and expand your skills.

The ideal candidate

  • Has experience in Backend development with the Java ecosystem.
  • Has production experience with Java, SpringBoot, MySQL, Message Systems & GIT.
  • Has worked with Domain Driven Design, and Clean, or Hexagonal- Architecture.
  • Has knowledge of AWS services (SQS, SNS, S3…), ElasticSearch, Redis, GitHub Actions, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Has experience with building scalable solutions.
  • Enjoys actively participating in a cross-functional product team.
  • Takes pride in writing quality code.
