Sustainable Comfort, Inc. (SCI) is a green building and energy efficiency consulting firm specializing in multifamily housing. Our mission is to create better buildings through sustainability, innovation, and collaboration. By working with developers and construction teams across the Northeast Region, we help bring high-performance, energy-efficient buildings to life.
As a company, we value ambition, teamwork, and the drive to make a meaningful impact. SCI offers a forward-thinking culture with opportunities for professional growth, leadership development, and creative problem-solving.
Position Overview
The Building Energy Inspector ensures that multifamily construction projects meet the highest standards of energy efficiency and green building certification programs. This role involves on-site inspections, diagnostic testing, and collaboration with project teams to identify areas for improvement and maintain compliance with standards like HERS, ENERGY STAR, LEED, and more.
The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to grow professionally in the green building industry. This is an opportunity to work on innovative projects, develop your technical expertise, and make a lasting impact on building sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate construction sites for compliance with energy efficiency standards, including HERS and other green building certification programs.
Conduct diagnostic field tests, such as blower door and duct leakage testing, to measure building performance.
Prepare HERS energy models and ensure accuracy in data collection and analysis.
Draft clear and concise reports summarizing inspection results, identifying deficiencies, and recommending corrective actions.
Organize and maintain all required documentation for certification and third-party audits.
Provide training and support to subcontractors and construction teams to help them meet energy performance requirements and certifications.
Collaborate with contractors, developers, and other stakeholders to set inspection schedules, communicate program expectations, and troubleshoot issues.
Travel regularly within a 60–90-mile radius for site inspections, meetings, and fieldwork.
Role Expectations
The Building Energy Inspector is expected to be a proactive contributor to the success of projects by ensuring compliance with energy efficiency and green building requirements. Inspectors will work hands-on in the field and play a key role in maintaining quality assurance throughout the construction process.
Key expectations include delivering accurate and timely inspection results, building strong relationships with project stakeholders, consistently adhering to quality assurance protocols, and identifying opportunities for energy performance improvements and driving solutions.
Success in this role means producing reliable work, fostering collaboration, and continuously improving your technical skills while contributing to the company’s mission to create better buildings.
