Job Description
About Rivian Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary We are looking for a seasoned Staff Data Engineer who will play a critical role in advancing our data infrastructure, ensuring it meets the highest standards of reliability, scalability, and performance. This position involves leading the design and implementation of sophisticated data solutions that drive both functional and cross-functional success. The ideal candidate will have deep domain expertise, particularly in leveraging data to address complex problems and uncover opportunities. Responsibilities Independently design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and workflows using advanced technologies, including SQL, Python, AWS, Kubernetes, Argo, AWS Batch, and Streaming Data. Lead data engineering initiatives that align with organizational objectives, focusing on creating evaluation frameworks that compare simulations to ground truth. Work effectively with limited supervision, managing high-level objectives while delivering on detailed, hands-on technical tasks. Drive projects that involve diverse stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of expectations and careful tracking of progress to maintain high standards. Collaborate across teams to influence decision-making processes and drive cross-functional goals. Identify and resolve conflicts by understanding and integrating different perspectives, fostering a collaborative working environment. Implement and manage change initiatives, making a compelling case for improvements and securing early buy-in from stakeholders. Mentor and guide junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on building and optimizing complex data pipelines. Proficiency in SQL, Python, AWS services, Kubernetes, Argo, AWS Batch, and Streaming Data. Proven experience in developing evaluation frameworks comparing simulations to ground truth.
