Job Description

We are looking for a Technical Assistant to join our Warehouse & Logistics group; as we scale up and drive digital and financial inclusion across our markets.

Job Purpose

As a Technical Assistant – Phone Refurbishing and Warehouse Operations, you'll play a key role in ensuring that refurbished phones meet top-quality standards before they make their way back into the market. Your day-to-day tasks will involve inspecting and grading devices, managing inventory, tracking data, and making sure everything runs smoothly in the refurbishing process.

What will you do?

You'll be handling warehouse stock-taking, making sure returned and refurbished devices are accurately logged and organized for easy access. When it comes to phone refurbishing, you'll be reinstalling software, configuring settings, and restoring devices to factory standards—all while making sure they’re thoroughly cleaned and up to quality expectations.

Quality inspection and grading will also be a big part of your role, where you'll assess functionality, appearance, and battery life before categorizing each phone (think Grade A, B, or C). Getting this right is crucial, as we want to ensure only top-notch products reach customers.

You'll also be responsible for data tracking and reporting, keeping detailed records of device status and stock levels using Excel or similar tools. Expect to conduct visual inspections to catch any scratches or defects and follow warehouse safety protocols to maintain a safe and efficient workspace. Plus, you'll contribute to process improvements using Kaizen principles and ensure all tools and equipment are properly used and maintained.

Other parts of the job include thoroughly cleaning devices (screen polishing, disinfecting, etc.), offering basic technical support, and troubleshooting minor software or functionality issues.

This is an onsite role in Uganda reporting to the Product Repairs Team Lead.

To succeed in this role, you should have a basic understanding of phone refurbishing, including software installation and device configuration, along with familiarity with grading systems and quality checks.

Strong attention to detail is a must, as you'll need to spot defects and grade devices accurately. You'll also need to be efficient and organized, capable of handling a high volume of devices while meeting productivity targets.

Problem-solving skills will come in handy for troubleshooting minor tech issues and improving processes, while good communication skills will help you collaborate with the team and report any updates.

A degree in a technical field is preferred, and any experience in phone refurbishing, warehouse operations, or technical support will give you an edge. IT certifications, knowledge of common phone models and operating systems (iOS, Android), or experience using inventory management systems would be a big plus.

This is a full-time, on-site role in a fast-paced warehouse environment where efficiency, quality, and safety are top priorities. Standard warehouse hours apply, but some flexibility might be required depending on demand. If you're looking for a hands-on, detail-focused role in the tech and refurbishing space, we'd love to hear from you!
