Job Description
Leading the future in luxury electric and mobility
At Lucid, we set out to introduce the most captivating, luxury electric vehicles that elevate the human experience and transcend the perceived limitations of space, performance, and intelligence. Vehicles that are intuitive, liberating, and designed for the future of mobility.
We plan to lead in this new era of luxury electric by returning to the fundamentals of great design – where every decision we make is in service of the individual and environment. Because when you are no longer bound by convention, you are free to define your own experience.
Come work alongside some of the most accomplished minds in the industry. Beyond providing competitive salaries, we’re providing a community for innovators who want to make an immediate and significant impact. If you are driven to create a better, more sustainable future, then this is the right place for you.
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to design and develop advanced PCB boards and integrated systems for battery cell testing automation. The ideal candidate will excel in troubleshooting, iterating, and optimizing electronic designs to create robust and reliable testing equipment. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of battery cells with vehicle systems, contributing to cutting-edge test automation solutions.
Role:
- PCB Design & Development: Design, develop, and iterate on PCB boards tailored for automated battery cell testing applications. Ensure designs are reliable, robust, and meet all specified requirements.
- Integration & Testing: Integrate PCBs with mechanical parts, sensors, temperature chambers, and other electrical components to create cohesive testing systems. Troubleshoot and refine systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Firmware & Software Development: Develop and maintain firmware for custom test equipment. Utilize Python for scripting and automation, and Kicad for PCB design. Implement TCP/IP and CAN communication protocols for interaction with battery cyclers and other test equipment.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful integration of testing systems into battery cell evaluation processes.
- Documentation & Communication: Produce comprehensive documentation for designs, firmware, and test procedures. Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure project goals and deadlines are met.
Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency with temperature sensors, power electronics, and integrating these components into complex systems.
- Experience with Python and Kicad for hardware-software interfacing and PCB design.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, CAN, SPI, I2C and UART communication protocols. Experience programming Raspberry Pi to interact with Arbin/Maccor Servers and send commands to custom boards.
- Experience developing firmware for ASIC integrated on hardware.
- Experience with system bring-up, manufacturing end-of-line testing
- Prototype Development:
- Proven experience with prototype electromechanical systems including PCB design, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi.
- Documentation & Communication:
- Experience with development tools like IAR/Keil, JTAG debugging, and the Git version control system
- Strong skills in creating detailed technical documentation and effective communication across teams.
Preferred:
- Data Analysis:
- Experience with statistical programming tools for data analysis (e.g., Python, Matlab, JMP, Tableau, Grafana, SQL).
- Battery Cell Testing Experience:
- Hands-on experience with battery cell testing equipment and methodologies.
- Knowledge of battery cell technology, electrochemical cell components, and general battery safety.
- Analytical Skills:
- Ability to analyze experimental data critically and independently to derive actionable insights.
Education:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; OR
- Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience; OR
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
