Manufacturing Engineering

The Director of Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and deployment of manufacturing equipment to support the production of Lucid’s vehicles. This role is focused on downstream processes, ensuring that equipment is designed, tested, and launched effectively to support high-quality, efficient, and scalable production. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with deep expertise in manufacturing equipment design, project management, and process optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Manufacturing Engineering team with a focus on designing, developing, and launching production equipment for vehicle manufacturing.
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Production teams to ensure seamless integration and scalability of new equipment.
  • Drive the commissioning, validation, and ramp-up of new manufacturing equipment to meet production targets, quality standards, and cost objectives.
  • Product design reviews and DFM.
  • Manage the entire lifecycle of equipment projects, from concept and design to installation and production launch.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Design and Engineering to ensure the manufacturability of new designs and to optimize the interaction between equipment and processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for existing equipment by optimizing performance, reliability, and efficiency through lean manufacturing principles and advanced data analytics.
  • Make vs buy analysis and building in house expertise
  • Partner with suppliers and vendors to ensure the timely delivery and installation of manufacturing equipment, aligning with production schedules.
  • Lead efforts to improve automation and digital manufacturing systems, ensuring that equipment is aligned with Industry 4.0 standards.
  • Establish and maintain preventive maintenance programs and ensure a high level of equipment uptime and availability.
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, and promote a culture of safety in all manufacturing engineering activities.
  • Manage budgets for equipment projects, ensuring cost-effective solutions and a focus on return on investment (ROI).
  • Provide mentorship and leadership development to the Manufacturing Engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a strong focus on equipment design, commissioning, and production launches.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing large-scale equipment projects and teams in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment design, automation, robotics, and process optimization.
  • Experience working in the automotive or electric vehicle manufacturing industry is highly preferred.
  • Expertise in lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proven ability to drive innovative solutions in manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and interact with senior leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
