Job Description

Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, calibrate, verify, and validate numerical models for structural graphite and steel materials
  • Perform thermal, mechanical, and thermal-mechanical analyses of metallic and graphite systems, structures, and components (SSCs) using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to aid the Design and Engineering and Safety Analysis teams
  • Develop new design-by-analysis methodologies and implement existing standardized design-by-analysis methodologies for stress and failure analyses of metallic and graphite SSCs
  • Contribute to uncertainty quantification (UQ) efforts for Kairos structural material models
  • Facilitate the implementation of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) protocols for our structural materials
  • Assist in software and hardware acquisition activities, including cloud computing resources
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive structural integrity framework across the organization, targeting safety-critical metallic components
  • Create and implement procedures for assessing defects in metallic structures
  • Formulate plans for experimental testing initiatives focused on metallics, contributing to the advancement of methods
  • Provide hands-on assistance to design and licensing efforts related to KP-FHR advanced reactor technology systems
  • Drive management and work program leadership in meeting company’s licensing milestones and deliverables

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Philosophy degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, plus two (2) years’ post-baccalaureate experience as an Engineering Lead, Researcher, or related role
  • Experience must include: utilizing Python for data manipulation, extraction, and analysis; utilizing Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) for data analysis, modelling, and automation; procuring critical safety-related components; supporting nuclear quality assurance processes; conducting stress and strain analysis; leveraging Finite Element Methods, structural mechanics, structural assessment standards, and interpretation of data to inform method development

The salary range for this position is $137,301 to $160,077 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
