Are you ready to build America’s clean energy future with the team that will deliver? Form Energy is an American energy technology and manufacturing company. We are pioneering a new class of iron-air batteries to enable our electric grid to run on renewable, reliable, and affordable energy, every day of the year.

We are making rapid progress on our mission of delivering energy storage for a better world, and are growing just as rapidly to meet demand. Our team has more than doubled in size in the past year, and continues to expand every day. We have signed contracts with leading electric utilities across the United States. Pilot production of our iron-air batteries has already begun, and later this year, production will take off to high volumes at our new factory in West Virginia.
Working for Form Energy is more than just a job, it’s a chance to be part of something extraordinary. And right now might be the most exciting moment in the company’s history to join. Role Description
We are looking for a Senior Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Prototype Design team, within our Cell Engineering organization in Berkeley, CA. You will closely partner with our Cell Performance and Product Design teams to iterate upon new design concepts on our Berkeley pilot production line. You will leverage your creativity and equipment design expertise to realize novel cell assembly processes, in close coordination with our Prototype Manufacturing engineering team.
This role's initial focus will be to directly support assembly equipment design of our second generation Iron-Air battery pilot assembly line. Once the line is operational, you will focus on the creation of small quantities of novel design concepts to be prototyped on the pilot line. Success in this role will require travel (1 or 2 times per quarter) to Form Headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, as well as Form Factory 1 in West Virginia to support the implementation of the latest cell assembly processes and maintain continuity of knowledge. If you are excited at the prospect of getting hands on to drive a wide variety of complex prototype designs, from lab scale up through high volume production, then this is the right role for you!
What you'll do:
- Lead the cell assembly equipment design and commissioning efforts for our nascent second generation iron-air pilot assembly line
- Collaborate with the Cell Performance, Product Design, and Manufacturing teams to generate functional requirements and validate new cell and module design concepts
- Coordinate with our Supply Chain team to outsource high volume procurement of parts and hardware for our test vehicles and equipment
- Work with manufacturing engineers and technicians on our Build teams to transition prototype designs to standard test vehicles
- Conduct DFMEAs and failure analyses on production parts and assembly processes
What you'll bring:
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 4+ years, or Master's with industry experience in mechanical design
- Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and drafting
- Strong working knowledge of a wide variety of fabrication methodologies for plastics and metals. Hands-on machine shop proficiency is a strong plus.
- Experience with the design of experiments and data-driven validation of novel concepts
- Experience influencing, communicating, and collaborating with engineering and business functions
