Job Description
About Us
Eden is pioneering sustainable natural resource recovery by using electricity to enhance subsurface permeability. Our Electrical Reservoir Stimulation technology offers a precise, water-efficient alternative to traditional hydraulic fracturing, reducing environmental risks while maximizing resource extraction.
Backed by leading public and private institutions, we have raised ~$24M, including $14M in dilutive capital from industry leaders like Anglo American and Helmerich & Payne, along with climate-focused investors like Grantham Foundation. An additional $10M in non-dilutive funding has been secured, primarily through four DOE ARPA-E grants supporting our R&D in frontier industries.
Headquartered in Somerville, MA, with an office in Houston, TX, Eden's team of 20 experts specializes in geophysics, geochemistry, high-voltage engineering, and subsurface tool design. We are actively demonstrating our next-generation permeability enhancement technology across diverse geologies worldwide, collaborating with industry leaders in geothermal energy, geologic hydrogen, carbon storage, and mining to redefine resource recovery for a carbon-neutral future.
Looking ahead, we are preparing for surface and subsurface field tests in early-to-mid 2025, supported by our supportive technical partners.
About the Job
The Summer 2025 Laboratory Geology/Geochemistry Intern will work in a laboratory environment with Eden’s interdisciplinary R&D team to investigate processes relevant to in-situ (aqueous) geological conditions. These activities will support projects pertinent to the mining, geological H2, and CO2 sequestration industries. This role requires prior knowledge of experimental and analytical techniques and protocols, experience with experimental design and apparatus development, and a curiosity-driven mindset. You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and scientists, conduct novel tests, and support ongoing research programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Take an active role in laboratory investigations on processes occurring with fluid-rock interactions;
● Sample preparation and characterization involving cutting, coring, grinding, logging, and sieving, amongst others;
● Support geochemistry and engineering research teams to help optimize electrical stimulation tool design;
● Collection and analysis of geological and geochemical samples;
● Development and execution of sequential laboratory experimental plans;
● Conduct literature searches to support new experimental designs;
● Ensure laboratory equipment is working, calibrated, and fit for purpose;
● Prepare and present project updates, technical presentations, and reports for team members, clients, industry, and academic partners;
Requirements
● Pursuing a B.S. in Geology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field with 2 years of experience in laboratory and analytical work; or pursuing M.S/Ph.D. in Geology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field with 2 years of experience in laboratory and analytical work;
● Prior experience in experimental design and planning;
● Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in making technical recommendations with incomplete information;
● Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams;
● Engineering experience is a bonus;
● Prior usage or understanding of IC, GC, and ICP instruments is a bonus;
● Experience with flow, heat, and electricity measurements is a bonus;
● Eligible to work in the US without immediate sponsorship (e.g. F1 OPT and J1 AT are acceptable)
